The
Five 4 Five "Shoot Cameras Not Guns" photography show
rocked Los Angeles last summer. Close to 800 students
participated, 8000 members of the public came to see
it at the Gallery on Olvera Street. Led by Five 4 Five's
prize winning photographer Sofia Hernandez, and helped
by Mireya Hilario, Lizandro Machado, Paul Solis, and
Gabriela Sepulveda, the show attracted rave reviews
in the LA Times and neighborhood papers.
Dedicated to our beloved Humberto Gomez, a gifted student
photographer who was murdered last year, it is a tribute
to how young people see violence and seek to end it.
"Shoot Cameras Not Guns Gallery Show" will launch a
new program in Marin this season. Grants from the Marin
Community Foundation, Autodesk and Milagro Foundation
and Hal Brown, president of the Marin Board of Supervisors,
are making it possible. Founders Gina Brownstein and
Mary Ann Maggiore work with local schools and community
groups to prove that art can both save and change lives.
